HALF OF ALL BIRTH DEFECTS MISSED BY ANIMAL TESTS
A PCRM review carried out by consultant Dr. Jarrod Bailey of the University of Newcastle's School of Surgical and Reproductive Sciences looked at birth defect studies of nearly 1,400 different substances, including household chemicals and many common drugs. The review revealed that tests using animals such as mice, rabbits, dogs, hamsters and monkeys were such poor predictors of human birth defects that they were accurate only a little more than half of the time.
